Tabarie Henry wins Texas Invitational in 45:09! The fourth fastest time in the world!
The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation announced today that Tabarie Henry broke his own V.I. National Record in his win on Saturday May 2 of the Univ. of Texas 400 meters with a time of 45.09 which moves him up to fourth place from twelfth on the IAAF 400m world list.
Henry, a sophomore at Barton County Community College, toed the line at the University of Texas Invitational against a very strong field including Tyson Gay and Wallace Spearman, two top USA Olympians; he had a strong start with his patented quick reaction time and pulled away from the field in the last fifty meters to break the Myers Stadium record (45.59) set by Michael Blackwood of Jamaica in 2002.
His time came in heat #1 of multiple heats for 40 sprinters, which included Linoel Larry Addidas second in 45.27; Tyson Gay Addidas was third 45.27; Jeremy Davis Unattached fourth 45.8; Marcus Boyd Baylor fifth 46.16; Kelly Willie Nike sixth 46.75; LeJerald Bitters Baylor seventh 47.00 and Wallace Spearman Nike eighth 47.33.
Henry has progressed in the 400m event over the past year as a student-athlete at Barton County Community College under coach Matt Cane. As a freshman he ran 45.19 and broke his first V.I. record at the Bejing Olympics were he advanced to the semi-finals. He set a national junior college record in the 600m indoors and recently ran a personal best of 20.84 in the 200m.
Henry will finish his two-year term at Barton County, a top junior college track and field program in the USA and compete for Texas A&M University the final two years of his college career.
