    LaVerne Jones Leads IAAF World Athletics Tour...

    Laverne Jones leads world in IAAF World Athletics Tour Standings...

    The VITFF announced today that Laverne Jones, V.I. Olympic sprinter and national record holder has put together impressive doubles during the current outdoor season. On Sunday she won her third double (100m and 200m in the three consecutive track meets) on the IAAF World Athletics Tour. Her victory in the 200m puts her in first place on the IAAF World Athletics Tour Standings. Her wins have come in the Ponce Grand Prix in Ponce, Puerto Rico two weeks ago, the Grande Premio Brasil Caixa de Atletismo last week and the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in Helengo, Netherlands on Sunday.

    During this period she has broken her own V.I. National Record at least four times, achieved the position of number one on the IAAF 200m list (Lauren Williams went to the top of the list on Saturday at the Reebok Grand Prix at Randles Island, New York). With her performance in Holand where she took first place in the 200m with a National Record time of 22.46, a performance that places her first in the IAAF World Athletics Tour standings.

    Jones took first place in the 100m with a time of 11.13 (Stephanie Durst of USA was second in 11.13 and Sandra Sturrup of the Bahamas was third in 11.18) and is now ranked third on the IAAF World Athletics Tour standings.
